Designer for a day
Designer for a day service provides you with expert guidance from us your interior design partner. Allow us to assist you with parts of the project that you find overwhelming and to help you avoid making costly mistakes.
If you are located in Grand Rapids and have a small project, or you feel like full service is more than what you need for your project, designer-for-a-day is the service you need. Designer-for-a-day consists of three sessions. We reserve a full day (8 hours or two 4 hours) for just you. The full day can be divided up into two half days if you prefer.
Your Style
Your homework is to collect images of what inspires you. What is the desired mood of this space? Images can be on pinterest or you can email them to us prior to our meeting. They can be of objects, people, places, rooms, anything. You can have as many as 15 images or as few as 1. Think this through because the stronger this inspiration is, the faster the next steps will be. Be prepared to explain what you love about your inspiration.
You also will need to bring a list of things you want in this space and what is your overarching functional goal for this space.
We will meet at the project site for a 1-hour session to discuss your inspiration and how it translates to design.
Floor Plan
We will take on-site measurements and draw it up.
We create a floor plan to get an idea of what size furniture or millwork to look for and to allow for proper clearances.
Shopping
If furniture is all that’s needed, we can get most items online. If you feel like you need to touch and feel a few critical pieces like sofa we can visit the showroom or local shop if applicable. Otherwise, we will create a list of all the online resources that your specific items can be purchased from. This can take between 2-4 hours depending on how many items are there, whether you can decide quickly, how focused we are in this session. If swatch samples are needed we send them to you as a follow up in a few days so we can be sure of the colors.
Based on your style, we will take you shopping at some local shops and showrooms if applicable. Showroom visits are good for kitchen and bath projects and have to be scheduled in advance. Based on the type of project, we will make these appointments for the day of the meeting. This is typically 2-3 stops covering items like flooring, backsplash, countertops, plumbing fixtures etc. We reserve 2-4 hours for this as well.
At the end of the day you will have:
- A clear idea of what your space would be.
- A mood board with your inspiration
- A shoppable concept board that translates your inspiration into actual products
- A floor plan
- Vendor/Contractor contacts who can help you with procurement and installation
- Fabric swatches and other samples if necessary
