residential full service design
If you are located in Grand Rapids and are in need of full service interior design, please take a look at our full service process below. Our process runs in three phases and the fee for a phase is proposed and collected prior to beginning of the that phase. All of this may not apply to your specific project. We discuss this over our discovery call and develop a custom process based on this overarching process for your specific needs.
Intro
Our first point of contact is a complementary discovery call. During this 30 minute call we talk through our design process and answer any questions you may have. Book your complementary discovery call by clicking the button below.
Every project starts with our questionnaire. During this important step we try to gauge whether our process and style are a match for your project. We ask that you provide us with as much information as possible, including inspiration pictures and plans/photos if you’ve got them. Fill out the questionnaire by clicking the button below.
Please book your 2-hour long on-site consultation by clicking the button below. We collect payment for this meeting upfront. Once we receive the payment, we review your project details, and contact you to set up a date and time. We finally get to meet. We will email you a document that will help you prepare for this meeting. This meeting is about getting to know each other, learning more about your taste and preferences, filling in gaps in the questionnaire, and reviewing the overall scope of your project so we can estimate the resource requirements and the timeline.
Design
Based on what we gleaned from the on-site meeting, we give you a proposal that outlines the scope of work and our estimated design hours and design fee. Once you sign the proposal and make the payment, we are ready to roll. Any additional scope will be billed via a separate proposal.
Our work has begun at this point and we set up time to measure and photograph your space. The time taken for this varies by project size. All you have to do is give us access to the project site and we do the rest.
The project budget is separate from our design fees. This is based on our prior budget discussions with you. We have you approve an itemized project budget so that we can use it as the basis for sourcing products for your project.
We’ll put together a brief presentation that outlines our vision for your space, which will include our concepts. This involves looking at the big picture, nothing detailed yet. We will have a color scheme, a moodboard giving you an overall feel of where this project is going. We may include material samples, if needed. This helps ensure we’re on the same page before proceeding to design development.
During the presentation we listen and take notes from you. Based on your feedback we revise the concept, if needed. We are confident that 1 revision is sufficient, but if additional revisions are needed we bill hourly for that.
This is the time where we do our most intense work. We put together a detailed package for your contractor if there are any finish selections or construction work involved. This package includes floor plans and 3D drawings of millwork designs, flooring, countertop, hardware & lighting selections, and spec sheets for all your selections. We also finalize furniture, rug, and art selections during this time.
It’s time for us to get together one more time so you can see your space fully designed. We do a presentation with you and make adjustments until everything is to your satisfaction. Once all revisions are done, we prepare for the next phase of design.
Implement
Before we begin placing orders for your project, we give you another proposal. This proposal has two parts:
a. How long the ordering and implementation will take and our fee for that work.
b. We also include your project budget in this proposal. You pay a full deposit based on this budget, which is applied towards the purchases. If there is change in selections or pricing, and additional funds are needed, we inform you and collect the funds. If there is balance left over, we refund that amount to you during project closure.
We require that our clients sign off on this proposal before we start implementation.
We collaborate with your General Contractor, Architect, Engineer and other trades to ensure open communication. If you don’t have a GC we connect you to the right tradespeople and coordinate with them.
We check in throughout the project by visiting the site to ensure everything is coming together as intended and to answer any questions.
We begin placing orders. This is when we get a more clear picture of lead times for each item. We keep you informed during the entire process so there are no surprises.
Some clients like to see furniture as it comes in, and for that, we can have it shipped directly to the project site. Someone will need to be present to inspect for damages and accept delivery.
Others like the idea of a big reveal. We can arrange that by storing all your deliveries in a warehouse and then setting up everything on install day/s. When all construction is complete, we coordinate with our team to get everything moved in, set up, and ready for you. It’s a day or two of preparing your home for the big reveal.
Two weeks after install we check in with you to see if there are any issues or final changes to be made.
We reconcile all accounts and provide you with a project binder.
